"Heresy"
by Nine Inch Nails
he sewed his eyes shut because he is afraid to see
he tries to tell me what I put inside of me
he's got the answers to ease my curiosity
he dreamed up a god and called it Christianity
your god is dead and no one cares
if there is a hell I will see you there
he flexed his muscles to keep his flock of sheep in line
he made a virus that would kill off all the swine
his perfect kingdom of killing, suffering and pain
demands devotion atrocities done in his name
your god is dead and no one cares
drowning in his own hypocrisy
and if there is a hell I will see you there
burning with your god in humility
will you die for this?

Nine Inch Nails makes an interesting blend of music, some very hard, some very soft, all of it a bit painful and wonderful at the same time. It is angry, it is sorrowful, it digs deep into your heart and says all the things that are buried there. For this reason, the strange, twisted mind and music of Trent Reznor has actually managed to become my favorite artist, even supplanting the Beatles (who were more skilled musicians, don't get me wrong, and they spoke a powerful message...but they never cut it as deeply as Trent could).
Three more masterpieces of his are Hurt, on The Downward Spiral (same album as Heresy), Right Where It Belongs and All The Love in the World (both on his latest, With Teeth).
BTW, this is still a political blog, not a musical one, but I felt that it was appropriate, somehow.

thank you for sending this to me, i totally love it....
the "hard" genre doesn't matter, the music is unique, but more importantly matches the message of the very meaningful lyrics.
BTW, john lennon was a good musician and the brains of the beatles....

John Lennon was a fantastic musician, a veritable god of the twentieth century. He was the Mozart of the 60s and 70s (and has yet to be matched for skill, in my opinion), but Trent just has something about him that reaches deep inside...it is hard to explain. I think you get it, though.

no, lennon was no mozart, (was he composing 90 minute pieces for an orchestra at age 8?), but he was very intellectual and a fine musician. i still see paul as fluff.
personally, however, i like johnny cash's version of Hurt better, but i'm glad i have this one, thanks for sending it, too!
you rock.

I think I like this version better, but that is probably because I heard it first. Trent Reznor, however, still referrs to it as the song that is no longer his.
